MILAN TOURS

bike-and-the-city-tour-bicicletta-milano-roma-verona-45

Milan is much more that the Capital of fashion, design and business. The cosmopolitan Milan has become for travelers from all around the world, the best possible gateway to Italy: an unparalleled blend of inspiring art and architecture, both ancient and contemporary, cool hang-outs and good life, invigorated by one of the world’s finest cuisine.

Our Bike & The City® tour was born in 2011 to reveal through the bicycle the lesser-know architectural beauty, artistic richness and culture appeal of the city Milan, as well as its greener facade.

It’s hard to believe now but, at that time, before Expo 2015, Milan was considered little more than just a layover to get to the more famous Italian destinations, or merely a fashionable shopping spot and a business must-go place, before quickly heading off to the nearby lakes (Maggiore, Como and Garda), the Dolomite mountains or the touristic cities of Venice, Florence and Rome.

We are therefore the first and original Bike Tour of Milan, pluriannual TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Winner. We are proud and happy to offer, every year, to thousands of people from all around the world, an authentic experience of Milan and to continue contributing in making Milan known for much more than the clichés.

Our itineraries are designed to show you how much Milan is blessed with a rich architectural heritage as well as how lively and in continuous transformation the city is; a city where ancient and contemporary literally fight to get travelers’ attention for their high artistic value and beauty.

In the crowded streets, full of shops and activities, you will also feel the pragmatic, hands-on, business-oriented mentality of the “Milanesi” and at the same time, by taking sneak-peaks in the hidden courtyards and little cozy restaurants, you will see the evidence of their attention to crafted details, design, art, food, beauty and joy of life.

BIKE & MILAN HIGHLIGHTS
Discover Milan cycling

Pedalling through the city with us, you will go on a unique itinerary that reveals Milan at its best.

You will experience a fascinating city and you will uncover most of its urban myths and legends.

Milan is not only about its Cathedral and the Last Supper of Leonardo da Vinci, our aim is to make you experience much more!

For a flat and not-too-big city like Milan, the bicycle is the most effective and comfortable way of blending in and having a complete overview of the city in just a few hours. The ride starts from the ancient and bohemian Ticinese district, that owes its name to the eponymous city gate, and from there we saddle up on a classic Dutch-style bike through the must-see areas of the city center.

We will see the astonishing gothic Duomo Cathedral, the understated Royal palace, the chic Vittorio Emanuele Gallery as well as the world-known Opera House La Scala. From there we head to the Brera, the district of artist, that hosts the city’s Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) before leaping in time to immerse ourselves in the new rising architectures of the Porta Nuova district. We then make a triumphal entrance at the Sforza Castle, we breath and slow down a bit in the green lung of the city, Simplon park, with its elegant neoclassical Peace Arch. We get back to the starting point but not before visiting the Roman Ruins of the Imperial era when Milan was capital of a glorious Roman Empire with its Palace, Circus and Amphitheatre.

At the end of this journey you will definitely feel as though Milan is a part of you.

BIKE & MILAN SUNSET
Pedaling smoothly into the Sunset mood

At around 6.30 pm, when our bike tour starts, Milan is in the middle of it’s daily makeover.

A city that it is famously productive, business focused and fast-paced, little-by-little becomes quieter and slower, the light turns warmer and colors become vivid and captivating.

It’s then that the cocktail bars, wineries and various other venues all around the city start to open the doors to their patrons: they are about to celebrate the daily social ritual of the “Aperitivo”, where you meet friends, colleagues and loved ones, leaving the stress of the day behind, sipping a beer, a glass of wine or a Negroni with a variable amount of free food.

During the so-called Aperitivo time, we ride together across the city in a unique and magical atmosphere, enjoying a little breeze after a sunny warm Milanese summer day and experiencing the more relaxing soundstracks of the city.

The itinerary starts from the ancient and bohemian Ticinese district, that owes its name to the eponymous city gate, and from there we saddle up on a classic Dutch-style bike through the must-see areas of the city center. E-BIKE & MILAN ARCHITECTURES
For Bicycle, Architecture & Design enthusiasts.

As the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, once said, “coming to Milan is a unique and immersive Experience”. Milan is the most important laboratory of modern and contemporary architecture in Italy: “mobility, architecture and urban planning are depicting a greener city that offers a better quality of life to its inhabitants and an ever more beautiful city for its visitors”, and we are eager to show you why.

Our ride starts from the ancient Ticinese district, from where we saddle up on a premium design and technology e-bike by the Pirelli CYCL-e around™ e-bike rental service.

We head to the brutalist Torre Velasca by BBPR, a very controversial landmark of the city. Then, cycling along the University of Milan and former Hospital Ca’ Granda, we reach piazza Fontana, where the first public fountain by Giuseppe Piermarini was built in Milan, and then on to the Duomo square where we focus on the building designed by Griffini, Magistretti, Muzio, and Portaluppi and recently renovated by the Rota Group: Palazzo Arengario now Museo del Novecento (XX Century Museum).

This stop give us also the opportunity to take a journey back to the beginning of the XXth century where we can imagine ourselves sipping the original Campari Seltz or Negroni at Camparino, where artists and intellectuals alike, such as the Futurists Marinetti and Boccioni, but also professionals and individuals, used to stop, drink and have small talk at the end of the day, in the magic hours of the Aperitivo.

Back to the contemporary time we ride thorough the pedestrian shopping street of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and stop to admire the new life of Piazza del Liberty where the great work of the Norman & Foster studio has combined commercial architecture (the Apple store) and urban décor.

With San Babila at our back, we finally enter the district of Silence with its astonishing Nouveau and Eclectic Architectures. We stop at the XXth century domestic architectural masterpiece that is Villa Necchi Campiglio where we are offered a drink in the its elegant café with swimming pool and dehors. Then, climbing up the bastions of Porta Venezia, on our excellent e-bikes, we will head to the new area of Porta Nuova, but not before seeing one of the first skyscrapers of the city: the so called Pirellone by Gio Ponti. From now on you will have the impression of visiting another era of the city, even if you will still feel the Milanese personality as a fil rouge: Palazzo Lombardia, Biblioteca degli Alberi, Unicredit tower, Bosco Verticale, Fondazione Feltrinelli, a paradise for architecture enthusiasts. After a quick stop in Simplon park to see the Triennale and Torre Branca, again by Gio Ponti, we will ride towards the CityLife, the new neighborhood with the architectures of Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Arata Isozaki.

Time to go back to the meeting point with the camera full of photos and emotions!

WHAT OUR HAPPY CLIENTS SAY

FUN MORNING

I went to Milan with my 16 year old daughter – we both enjoyed this tour. I haven’t been on a bike for some years and am middle aged, overweight and rather unfit, I found the bike easy to ride – even managed the couple of small hills (I mean small) – 99% was on the flat. We stopped at regular intervals to hear stories about Milan and its history, found the places we wanted to visit again and explore further. It was very sociable, enjoyed meeting the others in our party. Most of the ride was in cycle lanes, parks and pedestrianised areas. Had fun 🙂

EXCELLENT TOUR

The highlight was the rooftop Duomo experience. The bicycles were comfortable and the cycling tour easy. Milan is fun to get around by bike. Our guide Sylvie was knowledgable and engaging, really outstanding.

AWE INSPIRING TOUR

Silvia, our guide, was extremely attentive and made sure my two teenage boys were constantly engaged. The bikes were sparkly brand-new. She was considerate at all times putting safety first. I believe a 10 year old would have a marvelous time doing the tour as safety was put first. Its a charming way to get feel for such a big city and leaves you with ideas of places to go back and explore further. In a nutshell highly recommendable.
